REVOLUTiON Emulator (Windows)

Tags: rev-emu, windows

Overview

The REVOLUTiON Emulator is used to play Steam games offline or without Steam in general. This site is about the Windows version of the emulator.
However, it also permits running a server that allows clients who do not own the game. This is also called 'cracking' the server or making it 'non-Steam'.

Installation guide

  • Place rev.ini and steam.dll in the folder containing your game or server executable.
  • For anything but Source-based games, place steamclient.dll there as well. For Source-based games, drop the steamclient.dll in the subfolder 'bin'.
  • If you want to make a GCF-backed standalone, you need to use a tool such as MiSteamPrep from the MiSteamSuite to create a minimum footprint for the game.
  • (optionally) In case you wanted to use Steam's Game Overlay with your game, use the 'HL2Loader.exe' executable found in the pack to launch your game.
